{"id":5501,"date":"2022-03-27T23:01:08","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T03:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gorga.org\/blog\/?p=5501"},"modified":"2022-03-27T23:04:23","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T03:04:23","slug":"weathersfield-center-vermont","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gorga.org\/blog\/?p=5501","title":{"rendered":"Weathersfield Center, Vermont"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This afternoon, I went to the &#8220;Open Portfolio&#8221; event* at the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/vcphoto.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vermont Center for Photography<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As is often my habit when headed to Brattleboro, I meandered in that direction rather than taking the direct route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, my meander took me through, among other places, Weathersfield Center, Vermont; a place that I had not visited before. The sum total of Weathersfield Center (other than a few houses) is an unusual (in that it is made of brick) and stately meeting house with a marble** (of course&#8230;this is Vermont after all!) Civil War memorial out front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a cold and dreary day with intermittent snow showers as I drove&#8230;Perfect conditions for making photographs with my camera obscura.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>[scrollGallery id=843 &#8211; autoscroll = false width = 600 height = 600 useCaptions = true]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* At these bimonthly events, folks gather to share photographs and garner feedback about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>** Geology note&#8230; the Connecticut River (the border between Vermont and New Hampshire) valley is the boundary of two tectonic plates. The Vermont side was in geologically recent times a seabed and thus Vermont is know for its marble, a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/faqs\/what-are-metamorphic-rocks\" target=\"_blank\">metamorphic rock<\/a> formed from the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/faqs\/what-are-sedimentary-rocks\" target=\"_blank\">sedimentary rock<\/a>, sandstone. On the New Hampshire side, the rocks are much older and New Hampshire is known for its granite, an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/faqs\/what-are-igneous-rocks\" target=\"_blank\">igneous rock<\/a>.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This afternoon, I went to the &#8220;Open Portfolio&#8221; event* at the Vermont Center for Photography.
